Spring is one of the most magical times to visit London. The parks burst into colour, the evenings get longer, and the city shakes off its winter coat with an impressive lineup of events, exhibitions, and outdoor adventures. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, here’s your guide to making the most of London in bloom.

March

1. St Patrick’s Day Festival and Parade

London hosts one of the largest St Patrick’s Day celebrations outside Ireland. The parade runs from Hyde Park Corner down to Whitehall, with marching bands, Irish dancers and colourful floats. Trafalgar Square then becomes the heart of the festival, with live music, food stalls and performances throughout the day. It is free to attend and always draws a lively crowd.

2. The Other Art Fair

The Other Art Fair brings together independent artists from across the UK and beyond. Visitors can buy original artwork directly from the artists, with pieces at more accessible price points than traditional galleries. Expect immersive installations, live DJs and a relaxed, social atmosphere. Tickets are required.

Location: Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane

3. Affordable Art Fair Battersea

This long-running art fair showcases contemporary works from more than 100 galleries. Prices start from around £100, and there is a dedicated section for works under £500. It is a good entry point for new collectors and a great way to discover emerging talent. Tickets are required.

4. The Last Princesses of Punjab

This exhibition explores the story of Princess Sophia Duleep Singh, goddaughter of Queen Victoria and a prominent suffragette. Set inside Kensington Palace, the exhibition highlights her life between royal circles and political activism. Standard palace admission applies.

April

1. The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race

One of the oldest sporting events in the world, the Boat Race has taken place since 1829. Crews from Oxford and Cambridge compete along a 4.25-mile stretch of the Thames. The race is free to watch. Popular viewing spots include Putney, Hammersmith Bridge and Mortlake. Arrive early to secure a good place.

2. Easter at Hampton Court Palace

During the Easter school holidays, families can take part in the Lindt Gold Bunny Hunt across the palace gardens. From 11 April, the Tulip Festival begins, with more than 100,000 tulips in bloom across the palace grounds. Palace admission tickets are required.

Dates: Easter holidays (exact dates vary), Tulip Festival from 11 April 2026

3. TCS London Marathon

More than 50,000 runners take part in the London Marathon each year. The route passes landmarks including the Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament. Spectators line the streets all day, especially around Greenwich, Tower Bridge and along the Embankment. It is free to watch, but arrive early for the best atmosphere.

May

1. RHS Chelsea Flower Show

The Chelsea Flower Show is one of the most prestigious gardening events in the world. Designers create large-scale show gardens, nurseries display rare plants, and experts offer talks and demonstrations. Tickets often sell out well in advance, so booking early is essential.
